         Floods.....                                                             Very often we hear of floods. Rivers and canals become full when it rains and the water overflows. River banks cannot contain the water and the water overflows as floods. I have seen a flood. Floods sometimes cause damage to houses property fields and gardens. Sometimes a flood can kill people and animals. We hear of floods which are destructive. We have minor floods in our country. Water flows through our gardens and houses. Sometimes it is difficult to get drinking water when there is a flood. We cannot go to work when roads are under water. A flood is an interesting incident for the small children.                

                                                                             Trees.......    Trees are very useful. Both man and animal cannot live without them. Trees provide us food, medicine, timber and shelter. Trees save us from the scorching rays of the sun. We get rain because trees too play a role in the water cycle. Trees also stop soil erosion. Trees make the environment beautiful. The Earth has become a cool, bright and beautiful place because of all the trees. Most of our people have not realized the value of trees. They cut down trees for their needs in a careless manner. If a tree is cut down, we must always plant another tree in its place. If we destroy trees the Earth would become a desert one day. Let us protect trees, and save our planet.                                                                 

                                                                                       WATER..... Water is very important for us to live. We cannot live without water. Water plays a major role in the life of all living beings especially the lives of human beings. Because of water, places are very clean. In some village areas of some countries, it is difficult to transport the big trees because there are no roads. Therefore they will have to transport the trees by floating on the rivers. And also it is very easy to transport things by rivers. We can get current and many kinds of fishes. Seventy percent of the earth is covered by water. Even though there is a great mass of water, only a small part of it is good to be used. We need water for cultivation. If there is a drought we cannot have cultivation. So each and every drop of water should be saved.                                      

                                                                     Mom & Dad                                                          Mom and Dad are my whole world. They have both dedicated their entire lives to us. I have no life without them. They dedicate day and night to make my future a success. Their love never changes or decreases. Their wish is always my safety and progress. Every time I get sick they try to keep an eye on me. In my world my queen is my mother and my king is my father. My wish is always their safety. I love my mom and dad.              

                                                                     Newspapers .                                                                     We live in an age where lots of information sources are available But, newspapers will continue to be around, no matter what. The newspapers bring us news of most things that are happening in the country and around the world. They have something for everyone. The weekend papers have more pages and sections than the dailies. The headlines in a newspapers give the gist of the news items. There are notices, stories, foreign news, sports news, advertisements and many other articles in the newspapers. Newspapers are very interesting to read. We learn many exciting facts from newspapers to improve our knowledge. Newspapers printing is very costly and it an endless task.               

                                                    Martin Wickramasinghe.                                      My favourite author is Martin Wickramasinghe. He is one of the Most talented writers in Sri Lanka. Every school - going child has read his novel Madolduwa. His style of writing is very simple. Any person can enjoy reading his books. Some of his books are prize-winners. His books are very good. We have seen Madolduwa and Gamperaliya on the screen. Some of his other books are Viragaya, Yuganthaya and Kaliyugaya. He is a writer who has understood human nature very well.         

                                                                      A Rainy Day                                        It was a Sunday evening. I was staying in my room and watching the weather outside from my window. Dark clouds were coming down and covering the blue sky. Because of the stormy winds, the branches were swaying. Men, women and children were hurrying home. Frist, light drizzle started and soon, it turned into a heavy shower. I felt scared as I was alone. Muddy water flowed along the drains into our garden. The traffic moved very slowly, Then I saw a man looking for some shelter. He ran to a wayside boutique. He kept looking out for the bus, but as there was no bus, he got into a trishaw. As it was tea time, I went to drink something hot. I had a cup of hot tea. At last my brother came home and I was happy. He was wet and I gave him a towel to wipe himself.       

                                                                                             Friendship                                         Friendship is a selfless relationship between two or more person with a sense of affection and esteem. Two friends generally keep their heart open for each other and don't keep anything secret. Many people befriend rich individuals for the sake of money and escape the vicinity whenever their friend is in a difficult situation. Friendship can happen between any individuals irrespective of their geographical boundaries or nationality. A true friend will never leave his friends whatever be the situation, and will always stand strong beside them.   The friendship acts as a balm on the pain of sorrows, grieves and suffering of life. True friendship is rare to find, but if found, it needs to be preserved and nurtured throughout the life. Friendship is a bond which heightens our happiness, lightens our sorrows and brightens our lives.   

                                                                      Finger Millet                                                       Finger Millet ( Eleusine Coracana) is a traditional grain that is popular in Sri Lanka because of its   nutritional value. It is called Kurakkan in sinhala and Tamil. Vitamin B, iron and calcium are all present in abundance in finger millet. It is also rich in dietary fibre and helps in easy digestion. Therefore it is an excellent remedy for constipation as it acts as a natural laxative. It is low in fat content but rich in carbohydrates which makes it good for people who are overweight. The digestion process for finger millet is slow and therefore helps in keeping the blood sugar at a low level.                   As a result, it has become a favourite food among diabetic patient.                                                                Universal Children's Day                                                      Universal Children's Day was established in 1954 by the United Nation's Organization. This day was dedicated to encourage brotherhood and understanding among children and to promote their welfare. Each country was given the freedom to choose an appropriate day. Countries all over the world organize special events for children on this day. Sri Lanka celebrated Children's Day on October 1st.    

                                                                🍩 Chocolates.🍫🍫                                                                             My favourite food is Chocolate. It is very delicious. Chocolate is made from Cocoa Beans. Its the best thing in the world. I like dark chocolate more than milk chocolate and its better for you too. I always eat chocolate whenever we buy some and its my favourite food. Chocolate is a healthy food. There are many chocolate categories in the world. ( white, dark, strawberry, fruit) etc.... There are different types of chocolate at different prices. I love chocolates. 

                                                             My Favourite Cricketer                 My favourite cricket player is a Wanindu Hasaranga De Silva. He made his international debut for Sri Lanka in July 2017. His elder brother,  Chathuranga De Silva has also represented the national team. Wanindu is born on 1997/07/29. He is 24 years old. He is a Right arm leg breaker. A bruising lower-middle order batsman, and an aggressive legbreak bowler, Wanindu Hasaranga graduated from a strong Richmond College outfit, had a fine run in Sri Lanka's 2015 and 2016 under-19 teams, and has made a promising start to his domestic cricket career. 

                                                                     Abraham Lincoln                                                                   ( 16th President of America. )   It was 12 February 1809 when a President was born in America and his name was Abraham Lincoln.    He was the 16th President of America. He ended the American civil war and made people free from     slavery. He was a unique person and there is a lot to learn about his life. It was 1860 when he was   elected as the President of the United Nations of America. He was killed on 15 April 1865 and slept   forever. Lincoln vowed ' That this nation, under God shall have a new birth of freedom; and that   government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth' ."
